so christmas is basically over, and i finally got around to doing some art!

This is something i put together using sound as my materials..... Hopefully it will upload properly!!

a trip to the wax room

went to the wax room today because i was a bit stuck with what i was doing. i decided i needed to be productive so i cut up some wires and took off downstairs... im quite happy with what i ended up with!!

more photoshop!

im starting to really enjoy this photoshop stuff. i had a folder full from last year of lots of photoshop pieces and a description of how i did them. So i rooted that out to try put this together.!! i was thinking of how soundwaves get bigger as sounds get louder... so do people react this way?? When the music is quiet people tend to make small movements.. and as it gets louder people jump around and have big body movements...
i have yet to prove this, however i did some photoshop based on my opinion!!!

I had so much fun doing this and was delighted when it came out of the printer!!
i know i have already done a piece with photoshop but in this one i used some of my own photography!!!

wires and ribbon!

About 2 weeks ago i was tried out a wire thing... i wanted to get a bit bigger than the canvas size. So i used a part of the wall just to see if it would work out. My aim, was to once again portray sound moving from one place to another, gradually getting louder. I started of tight and the wires then dispersed outward to give off the effect of the sound moving from its source.

I also wanted to try out different materials. I found some ribbon i had stored in a box and while watching the telly i decided to draw on sound waves using markers..... the ribbon was not too long but not short either !

bamboo soundwaves

I had gotten some bamboo from the materials store and prepared it to make a sculpture i had planned weeks ago. However i didnt cmoplete this sculpture.
Last week, though, i decided to turn it into something different. I glued all the pieces together to make some colourful soundwaves!

I wanted to make it bigger and longer, but they were too heavy to add more to.
But all the same i do like these!!

A bit of photoshop!

Since i am keen on graphic design i decided that i need to create a piece using photoshop.
I used pictures from the internet for this one but i am going to take my own photos and use them for further photoshop pieces..
This is what i came up with.

recycling my materials!

While i was doing my wax piece, which i posted about last week, i used a piece of card to hold the wax while it was wet. after it dried i peeled off the wax and liked the marks it left on the card...
I decided to make something of this as we had a sustainable design talk last monday. I used oil pastels to make more marks on it turning it into a speaker emitting sounds. This was the result....

something different

so i tried some wax making a few days ago and i used a few wires to work with... it was only to try something new but i also found a use for it.....  to me it looked like a speech bubble..

so after i realised this i wanted to make a head or a face of someone shouting.   i didnt really know how i was going to do this and at first i thought of photoshop.

Then i thought about maybe making something photoshop-like but not on a computer.. this is when i thought about using words to make up a screaming face. i drew out and cut out words like 'click' and 'boom' ... all words that are sounds.

This is what i ended up with.

So then i put the wax and the head together...........

and this is what i ended up with!!

wires??

so im gettin sick of these wires so im going to move away from them.... they did help me to portray soundwaves in my opinion but is movement lacking in them...?  

i think i need to move away from just simply making soundwaves and now create actual sound myself.......

so lets see how i get on!

some changes need to be made.......

so after a long time of no posts i've decided some changes need to be made.
Now that the essay is done i can really get stuck into my artwork...

After a helpful crit class last friday i have completely cleared my wall... and its helping me move on with my work.

Talkin with my tutors and class mates iv realised that my work is too small and confined, that it seems like im afraid to explore.... im not going to produce bigger work. I've got some ideas that i will hopefully start and complete... i will soon uplaod some photos of my progress..!!

This piece that i created represent the 6 strings on a guitar.... the top of them are looped as they signify where you tune them....

 This is my idea of sound travelling..

This was created out of wires from the inside of wire tubing.
